Growing media made from the coconut coast.

We wash, dry and press coconut husk into low-EC cocopeat blocks, grow bags, coir fibre and coco compost — a renewable by-product of Karnataka's coastal harvest, processed to horticultural specification.

What we do

A husk that used to be burned is now a growing medium.

Along the coast of Udupi and Uttara Kannada, coconut husk piles up as waste after the copra harvest. It is fibrous, acidic in handling, slow to rot — and, treated properly, one of the finest soilless substrates in the world.

RainSpark takes that husk and puts it through a controlled sequence: defibering, three-stage washing to strip sodium and potassium, dewatering, drying to a measured moisture band, grading by particle size, then pressing or filling. Nothing is added that did not come off a coconut.

About the company
The husk-to-substrate loop Coconut harvest yields husk, which becomes fibre, pith and chips; pith becomes blocks, grow bags and compost; spent substrate returns to the soil. THE CLOSED LOOP HUSKin WASH+ DRY PRESS+ PACK SOILreturn Zero synthetic inputs. Fibre waste fuels the dryer. Wash water is treated and recycled.

The process

Six stages between the husk and the pallet.

Each stage has a number attached to it — a conductivity reading, a moisture percentage, a mesh size. That is the difference between coir dust and a growing medium.

Defibering

Husk is fed through a drum decorticator that separates long fibre from the pith held between it.

Screening

A trommel splits the output three ways — fibre to the baler, pith to washing, chips to the chip line.

Washing

Three counter-current tanks strip sodium and potassium until conductivity falls to 0.5 mS/cm or below.

Dewatering

A screw press takes the pith from roughly 80% moisture down to the low fifties before drying.

Drying

Held below 50 °C so colour and structure survive, down to a 14–18% moisture band.

Grading & pressing

Screened by particle size, then pressed into blocks or filled into bags, weighed and labelled.

Why coir

A growing medium that does not cost a peatland.

Peat extraction drains carbon sinks that took millennia to form. Coir is an annual by-product of a tree that is already being harvested for something else.

Renewable by origin

Every tonne we process is husk left over from copra and coconut water production along this coast. Nothing is grown to be turned into substrate.

Washed, not just rinsed

Three counter-current stages, with conductivity measured at the outlet of the last tank. We publish the reading on the batch label rather than asking you to trust it.

No synthetic additives

Water and husk. Where a buyer needs calcium-buffered substrate for a low-sodium crop, we buffer with calcium nitrate and state it on the certificate.

Traceable by batch

Each block and bag carries a QR code linking to that batch's conductivity, pH, moisture and production date. Scan it before you sow.

Where we are

Byndoor, between the Ghats and the sea.

Byndoor sits at the northern tip of Udupi district, on the border with Uttara Kannada — two coastal districts that grow coconut along almost their entire shoreline. Husk is available within a short haul in every direction, rather than trucked across state lines.

The factory is 6.2 km from NH-66, and the Konkan Railway stops at Byndoor. New Mangalore Port — roughly 130 km south — handles export containers today, and the upcoming port at Honnavar, about 55 km north, will bring sea freight closer still. Domestic dispatch to Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad runs straight up the highway network.
